About Lucknow Development Authority (LDA)

Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) is the statutory urban planning and development authority responsible for the planned growth of Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh. The authority was established in 1974 under Section 4 of the Uttar Pradesh Urban Planning and Development Act, 1973, through a government notification dated 13 September 1974. Since its establishment, LDA has been involved in coordinating urban development, housing, land development, infrastructure and public amenities across its designated development area. Its broader objective is to manage urban expansion in a planned manner while supporting the changing housing and infrastructure requirements of Lucknow.

The core responsibilities of Lucknow Development Authority include land acquisition and development, residential housing, commercial centres, land-use planning, infrastructure development and management of Nazul land and other properties as directed by the government. LDA also undertakes the development, beautification and maintenance of parks and green spaces and provides infrastructure-related facilities. Its planning functions operate through the Lucknow Master Plan, land-use regulations and zonal development plans, helping guide roads, circulation, public facilities, parks, utilities and different categories of development. The authority currently maintains and publishes the Lucknow Master Plan 2031 and related planning documents to guide the city's long-term development.

Today, LDA continues to work on planned townships, housing schemes and major urban-development initiatives aimed at creating better-connected and more sustainable communities in Lucknow. Its current planning initiatives include Transit Oriented Development (TOD) around major mass-transit corridors, preparation of detailed Zonal Development Plans and township developments such as Prabandh Nagar, IT City, Wellness City and Anantnagar Yojana. LDA's development portfolio also includes residential, commercial, institutional and mixed-use projects, along with public spaces and infrastructure projects such as the Lucknow Green Corridor. Through these initiatives, the authority aims to support inclusive housing, improved connectivity, green infrastructure and the long-term modernization of Lucknow.
